Darling Amalgamated Retail Emporium is committed to preserving the environment. From an Environmental Partnership with Hennepin County, to partnering with recycle masters TerraCycle and Green Circle Salons, we are trying to have as small a carbon footprint as possible. We recycle all common items – paper, cardboard, cans, plastic bottles, glass, etc, as well as recycling most of the waste that Dare Salon produces. We toss your hair into our Hennepin County organics bin, and Green Circle Salons takes the used foils, all of our waxing supplies, any leftover color, and most recently, any disposable PPE. We use TerraCycle to recycle the following hard to recycle waste streams: stationery (pens, glue sticks, paint sets, etc), oral care (toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss containers, etc), razors (blades and razors, packaging, etc) and personal care and beauty (skin care packaging, hair care packaging, cosmetic packaging).
We have a hot/cold water cooler with REAL cups & glassware for water, tea, or coffee. We have a Kuerig for single serve coffee made with reusable coffee pods, for little waste. We also compost what we can in a retail setting!
All of our retail bags & packing materials are reused as well. From gift bags, to tissue paper, to bubble wrap, it was used before. It’s just how we roll.
When we moved into this space, our biggest concern was the lighting. We have since updated and/or replaced all of the bulbs with energy efficient LED bulbs and some vintage chandeliers. 96.7% (or so) of our furniture, displays, and fixtures were purchased as vintage, previously owned, or upcycled to align with our goal to be as sustainable as possible.
