Open for Holiday Shopping

Yep! You read that correctly! DARE Minneapolis will be open weekends from November 25 through December 23 for your shopping needs? wants? pleasure? fun? WHATEVER! Saturdays from 11-4 and Sundays from 12-4, and always by appointment (text 612-464-5456).

Also, the new downstairs space should be finished, but we’re still fundraising to purchase the starting inventory for underDARE. The space will be open to view and as additional retail space for holiday shopping! Please, as always, share our project with folks that may be interested in helping us reach our goal!

IN OTHER NEWS DARE salon minneapolis is an official Toys for Tots drop off location for the 13th year in a row!

Please bring in a new, unwrapped toy between November 16-December 16, and we’ll make sure it gets to the local TFT warehouse to be distributed in time for xmas. OR, if shopping in real time and dropping off is just not going to happen with your busy schedule, I’ve set up a local fundraising page so you can donate dollars directly to our local Minneapolis chapter and they’ll do the shopping for you. 97¢ of every dollar you donate is used to purchase toys for local kids in need! They’re a great organization, and we’re glad to support them year after year!!!

I guess that’s it for now. Let me know if I’ve missed anything (besides your beautiful faces), and I hope to see you soon!!!

Introducing: DARE Salon Minneapolis and other news

It’s been a month and some since the estate sale, which was a stellar success, thanks for asking, even though we had a lot of the bigger items left. However, we met some new friends, Wild Things Antiques, who helped us finish emptying out the basement for the Songs With Sarah expansion (and who I just learned suffered a catastrophic flood last week and are closed indefinitely—please donate to their fundraiser at the above link if you are able). DARE Minneapolis has now officially merged with Dare Salon to become DARE Salon Minneapolis.

DARE Salon Minneapolis will still be open with the assortment of local gifts and art you all have come to love and expect, but now, by appointment only. Also feel free to text 612 454 5456 to see if I’m in the building, and pop on over! Halving our space just made it necessary for us to modify our business model…

Finally, TerraCycle has ruined everything and, after much thought, we are discontinuing our community recycling program. They have discontinued their stationery recycling program as of 5/31/2023 and they are limiting their beauty recycling to specific brands.

While I understand that TerraCycle is a for-profit enterprise, and need partners to help within the parameters of what to offer for “free,” but when their business partners make it impossible for every day, ordinary, sustainably conscious consumers to make the greatest impact with the least amount of effort, I don’t think they are really in this for the right reasons.

There are other community TerraCycle options out there, as well as neighbors sharing their Ridwell subscriptions (might be where I’m heading next…) And I’ll always have the Hennepin County Solid Waste and recycling numbers up on the page.

Thanks for continuing to follow along on our bumpy journey and recycling weird shit with us!!!!

New news and other news…

Our Estate Eale is upon us in two days!!! Main Street Estate Sales has done a bang-up job this week setting everything up—making everything accessible and the basement maneuverable!

Estate Sale Information

Since the sale is all set up and ready to go, DARE Minneapolis will no longer be holding regular business hours. Dare Salon will still be open with the assortment of local gifts and art you all have come to love and expect, just by appointment only. Halving our space had just made it necessary for us to modify our business plans…

Finally, TerraCycle has ruined everything and we are discontinuing our community recycling program. They have discontinued their stationary recycling program as of 5/31/2023 (I’m sending the last box of recycling in today!) and they are limiting their beauty recycling to specific brands. I’ll post more on this later…

One last quick note about the sale —

Masks will be required for the first 2 hours (9am-11am) EACH DAY OF THE SALE to accommodate our immunocompromised guests. All other times masking is optional.

Thank you in advance!!!

the universe steps up…

Guess what! It’s our 5 year anniversary this summer! 5 years selling local art and vintage! 5 years owning a salon! 2 locations, 1 name change, and 1 global pandemic later, and we’re still struggling to get folx to our little hidden courtyard shop.

But… it seems the universe has different plans for us…Sarah Songs (as I like to call the owner of the music school next door), needs to expand, and has asked if she can expand into our side of the basement. It’s really impolite to ignore the universe when it drops the answer in your lap…

This means that DARE Minneapolis will no longer have a lower level vintage section. We might have a few pieces here and there, but we’ll mostly be stocked with our fave local art and gifts. Also DARE Minneapolis will just merge into DARE Salon and be by appointment only, unless I decide to pop our open sign out…

But HERE’S THE FUN PART—we need to clear out the basement, store fixtures and all, so we are having an ESTATE SALE!!! Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, June 2-4, 9am-3pm each day. If there’s anything you’ve been eyeing and haven’t pulled the trigger yet, now is the time to stop in, do a little vintage shopping, and say hi! Check the website and the socials to see when/if we’re open…

Here’s to the universe & new adventures!

this winter, amiright??!?

So, yeah, I just looked, and I haven’t updated since mf*ing November??!? I talk to a lot of you (I’m a regular hair-apist, ya know) and this season has been pretty bleak for a lot of us. And, if I’m being perfectly honest, has hit yours truly pretty hard.

Winter burying the light inside…

*deleted TMI here*

Anyhoo, I’m back to the land of the light, I hope. Going to try posting more on the socials–we’re getting some new stuff in for spring and we’re heading to another Minneapolis Vintage Market on Sunday, April 16 at Quincy Hall in NE Minneapolis, with our mate Kristen (ecstatic eclectic vintage) — so that’s fun!

We’re still open Tuesdays 11-4, Thursdays 1-7, Saturdays 11-4, and are always up for a personal shopping appointment!

Stay bright my friends, and remember, medication is our friend!
